In The Egg for you to explore as part of Forest of Imagination 2021
11–18 September
The Egg Theatre
If a tree falls in the forest… we need to listen.
Why are we cutting down trees at a time when we need them most?
The balance of nature is in danger, yet we carry on with our traditions while the world burns around us. The trees we fell for our holiday celebrations aren’t just big trees, they are the elders, central to their communities – communicating, sharing and caring for the other trees.
We are now just beginning to understand the inner workings and wonders of the forest. The interconnectivity between trees and their fascinating exchanges with other complex systems create giant networks, holding the knowledge of our natural world.
The Living Tree Forest in The Egg Theatre is an invitation into this world of deep connection.
Berlin based artist Andrew Amondson shares his Living Tree concept, a community activated installation, co-created with artists and collaborators in Bath.
The five meter tall twisting geometry of the Living Tree is constructed using sustainably sourced thinnings from a local woodland and is co-designed with Charley Brentnall of Xylotek, Alexandre Mballa-Ekobena, Momentum Engineers and realised by Carpenter Oak with support from Shedworks.
The native plants and natural elements in the Living Tree Forest were generously provided by Andrew Grant of Grant Associates and Piers Taylor of Invisible Studio.
In addition, Roxana Vilk, the Vilk Collective and Squidsoup have designed a Circle/ هریاد†of Magical Musical Lights, alongside ‘I Am An Insect’ an immersive 3D soundscape composed by Gabriel Ware, produced by Martyn Ware for Illustrious Co. Ltd.
Listening Flowers have been designed by Matthew Leece and Jono Burgess as part of the Travelling Forest 21 at the American Museum June-September 2021, transformed into the FUNgal network of the Living Forest.
Forest of Imagination is a celebration of our collective imagination and connectedness to nature, co-founded by Grant Associates and House of Imagination in collaboration with Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios and Bath Spa University. Together we engage everyone in a creative conversation about the climate emergency and seek imaginative solutions for the future of our planet.
Forest of Imagination and the Living Tree are kindly supported by The Egg Theatre, Arts Council England, Grant Associates, House of Imagination, Bath Spa University, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, Imaginnovation, Brevio, Osborne Charitable Trust and the Kaleidoscope Collection.
All events are free of charge in true Forest of Imagination fashion but please book your free tickets where indicated. 01225 823409 or book online.
